Acropolis

A much anticipated e-ticketing and access control system has been successfully installed at selected archaeological sites and museums across Greece, the culture ministry announced on Monday.

The museums and sites included in the pilot scheme are the Acropolis and the archaeological sites of Athens’ historic center; the archaeological site of Knossos, the Heraklion Archeological Museum and the archaeological area and museum of Ancient Messini.

“The system has been operating on a pilot scheme and successfully handled traffic during peak hours at all sites,” the announcement said.

Moreover, an online service for the purchase of e-tickets will be in operation by the end of the week.

The project is being funded by the National Bank of Greece and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
