One of the first rules of big boat racing, if not the first rule, is to avoid collisions.
Unfortunately, on March 12, that was not the case at the Superyacht Challenge Antigua where the J Class yacht Svea rode over the stern of the J Class yacht Topaz, causing significant damage and injuring two crew members.
Multiple crew ended up in the water and one suffered four broken ribs. Both yachts suffered serious damage and were forced to retire from the race and the competition.
A hearing report released by the J Class Association found Svea responsible for the collision for failing to keep clear of the port tack boat.
